mission statement

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

The Catalyst is the visionary creation of Rev. Arthur Thomas, Senior Pastor of Oneness Rehoboth Apostolic Church. The Catalyst is one of the many social service programs our church provides. Beginning in November 2013, the Catalyst uses a non-religious life skills instructional curriculum and it is offered for free to individuals who were formerly incarcerated residing in Westchester.

The classes are held on Wednesdays from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM for a duration of 12 weeks. Upon completion of the 12-week program, program participants will attend a formal graduation where they obtain a certificate in overcoming self-destructive behaviors with a concentration in anger-management. In addition to the weekly life skills classes, program participants receive a mentor for support, role modeling and encouragement as well as a case manager who provides them with instruction and assistance in vocational/training, employment and housing.

One of the major goals of The Catalyst is to help in the reduction of the recidivism rate in our community. The national recidivism rate is 66%. As a result of our life skills model, The Catalyst recidivism rate is 9%. We believe this accomplishment is due, in part, to offering a syllabus with compelling subjects such as: anger-management, relationship-management, time-management, stress-management and finance as well as providing our students with mentors.
